Um die akustischen Eigenschaften eines Raumes erkennen und verbessern zu k\u00f6nnen, muss man also nicht nur die physikalischen Grundlagen der Akustik beachten, sondern auch die subjektive Wahrnehmung des Schalls und verschiedener akustischer Ph\u00e4nomene in Betracht ziehen. Die Tonh\u00f6he eines Schallereignisses wird durch die Frequenz des Schalls \u0192 bestimmt, also durch die Anzahl der Schwingungen pro Sekunde, beschrieben durch die SI-Einheit Hertz [Hz]. Je tiefer die Frequenz, desto gr\u00f6\u00dfer ist auch die jeweilige Wellenl\u00e4nge der Schallwelle, wobei das menschliche Geh\u00f6r Frequenzen von ca. 20 Hz bis 20.000 Hz wahrnimmt. In der Akustikplanung m\u00fcssen alle Parameter immer frequenzabh\u00e4ngig betrachtet werden, um eine saubere und aussagekr\u00e4ftige Planung zu gew\u00e4hrleisten.<\/p>\n<p>Nicht alle h\u00f6rbaren Signale decken den kompletten Frequenzbereich des menschlichen H\u00f6rens ab. Die menschliche Sprache erstreckt sich zum Beispiel von ca. 125 Hz bis 8 kHz. Dieser Bereich ist deshalb f\u00fcr die Planung der Raumakustik besonders wichtig. Die Frequenzzusammensetzung eines Signals ergibt die charakteristische Klangfarbe des Signals. Ein Schallereignis muss zudem eine gewisse Lautst\u00e4rke haben, um vom Geh\u00f6r \u00fcberhaupt wahrgenommen zu werden. Hier spricht man von der sogenannten H\u00f6rschwelle, die auch wieder frequenzabh\u00e4ngig ist. Mithilfe dieser Gr\u00f6\u00dfe wird die Dauer beschrieben, in der ein Schallereignis auf den ein millionsten Teil der urspr\u00fcnglichen Energie abgeklungen ist, also um 60 dB an Pegel verloren hat.<\/p>\n<p>Wird in einem Raum ein Schallereignis produziert, so breiten sich die Schallwellen abh\u00e4ngig von der Richtcharakteristik der Schallquelle mehr oder weniger kugelf\u00f6rmig im ganzen Raum aus. Dabei erreicht nur ein Teil der Schallenergie den Zuh\u00f6rer auf direktem Weg. Ein gro\u00dfer Teil der Schallenergie erreicht den Zuh\u00f6rer verz\u00f6gert \u00fcber Reflexionen an den Raumoberfl\u00e4chen.<\/p>\n<p>Je mehr harte Fl\u00e4chen in einem Raum vorhanden sind, desto h\u00e4ufiger wird die Schallwelle im Raum reflektiert und desto mehr Reflexionen erreichen den Zuh\u00f6rer, die Nachhallzeit wird dadurch l\u00e4nger. H\u00e4ufig werden sog. por\u00f6se Absorber verwendet, also Materialien mit einer gewissen Porosit\u00e4t, wie Textilien oder offenporige Schaumstoffe.<\/p>\n<p>Die auftreffende Schallenergie wird in solchen Materialien durch Reibungs- und Beugungseffekte innerhalb des Materials in W\u00e4rme umgewandelt und somit \u201egeschluckt\u201c. Seltener werden Membranabsorber (auch Plattenschwinger genannt) oder Helmholtz-Absorber eingesetzt, die nach einem anderen physikalischen Prinzip die auftreffende Schallenergie absorbieren.<\/p>\n<p>Die Eigenschaft, wie gut ein Material den Schall absorbieren kann, wird mit dem dimensionslosen Wert \u03b1 (Schallabsorptionsgrad) angegeben. Es gilt:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; \u03b1 = 1 entspricht 100 %-ige Absorption<br \/>\n&#8211; \u03b1 = 0 entspricht 0 %-ige Absorption<\/p>\n<p>Die F\u00e4higkeit zur Schallabsorption verschiedener Materialien ist stark frequenzabh\u00e4ngig, weshalb die Schallabsorption im Hallraum auch frequenzabh\u00e4ngig gemessen und angegeben wird. Um eine solche Reibung zu erm\u00f6glichen, muss der sog. Str\u00f6mungswiderstand in einem Bereich zwischen 500 und 1500 Pa s\/m liegen. Liegt der Wert deutlich darunter, kann das Material als schalldurchl\u00e4ssig bezeichnet werden; ist der Wert deutlich h\u00f6her, wird ein Gro\u00dfteil der Schallenergie entweder reflektiert oder passiert das Material ohne weitere Absorption der Schallenergie. Der Str\u00f6mungswiderstand gibt unabh\u00e4ngig vom Einbauzustand eine Aussage \u00fcber die akustischen Eigenschaften eines Materials.
